Is the dining room dead? See the fun ways other people repurpose theirs:
Almost from the moment that the Cunninghams saw the Los Feliz home that they would eventually buy, they knew that they wouldn't use the spacious dining room for its intended purpose.
"There was a breakfast nook, which we would eat in," Vipula Cunningham says. "Which made the dining room a blank slate."
I think there is a move towards open plan spaces these days. I have a very small kitchen with a "breakfast room" adjoining it. I am considering opening up the space a bit to make it a "kitchen/diner".
I having a dinning room and when I bought this house, I thought great. I had visors of us all threatening around having dinner, talking about our day. But no, it didn't last! The thing is there are two living rooms at my house and the kids always tended to just sneak down with their plates to the one downstairs, and they watched T.V. at the same time.
We live in a tiny bungalow but we still found space for a dining table. I think it is a shame it is seems to be coming an out dated piece of furniture for the young these days.
Great responses, toetapping, @deyana & @mo! I can understand where toetapping is coming from. My Mum, may she R.I.P. loved that scenario of having family around the dining room table, especially for Christmas and Easter, but as @deyana & @mo say, it is underused, to some extent in the modern day, especially by the Young, who only want to be at their play stations, with food on their lap. I love having a dining table/room, but mostly eat off my lap in the Living Room in front of the telly.
